The Story of Old Roots

I’m Sharon
I started Old Roots as a place to keep snippets of information that I’ve found whilst researching my family, along with some family stories and some social history.

Places we come from

My family comes from England, Wales and Ireland. Although this is confirmed by Ancestry’s DNA Origins, it appears to miss some of the regions of England I know for sure my ancestors came from, but Origins is some guesswork and to be taken with a pinch of salt.

In England, we came mainly from Lancashire, with some from Huntingdonshire, Worcestershire and Berkshire, along with a brick wall ancestor who claimed to be from Essex.
In Wales, we came from Anglesey and Gwynedd, and Denbighshire. With those families who originated in Gwynedd and Denbighshire eventually also settling on Anglesey.
And in Ireland, the family I’ve found come from Sligo and Roscommon, with another brick wall ancestor who family legend says came from Down or Antrim.
