I started Old Roots as a place to keep snippets of information that I’ve found whilst researching my family, along with some family stories and some social history.
My family comes from England, Wales and Ireland. Although this is confirmed by Ancestry’s DNA Origins, the DNA appears to miss some of the areas I know for sure my ancestors came from.
- In England we come mainly from Lancashire, Huntingdonshire, Worcestershire and Berkshire.
- In Wales we came from Holyhead, Amwlch, Caernarfon, and Denbighshire.
- In Ireland we came from Sligo, Down and Roscommon.
The names in my tree going back 3 or 4 generations are Williams (Angelsey), McAndrew (Sligo), Martin (Antrim), Marshall (Essex, supposedly), Higginson (Lancashire), Dunn (Louth), Lewis (Anglesey), Jarrett (also spelt, Garrard, Jarrerd & Garrerd) (Anglesey), Settle (Lancashire) & Watts (Huntingdonshire & Cambridgeshire).
